“Osman Sagar” is an artificial lake popularly known as ‘Gandipet’, situated 20 kms away from the city of Hyderabad. The Lake spreads over an area of 46 square km and came in to existence with the constructing of a dam on the river Musi in 1920 by Mir Osman Ali Khan. The lake stands as an astonishing example of forethought of the builder and the basic idea behind the construction was to provide water supply to the Hyderabad city. Currently, water from this lake is supplied to twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
“Gandipet” stands as the added attraction for “Osman Sagar” lake were in one can find landscaped gardens with very pleasant environment to hang out in the evenings. In short period, Osman Sagar became the favorite picnic spot for localities and ideal place for tourist to have unlimited fun at one stop. Normally, families prefer to bring their own arrangement regarding the food items is concerned but there is a cafeteria and food junctions that serves with snacks, drinks and other food items. The best time to visit this lake is after rainy season were in the reservoir is flooded with water and one can get the opportunity to swim and to have boat rides during this season.

One can have best view of the lake from the princely guesthouse constructed by last Nizam of Hyderabad that currently serves as a summer resort. The resort is on the banks of the river and named as “Sagar Mahal”. Currently this guesthouse acts as a resort, which is under the supervision of Andhra Pradesh tourism department.
