“Durgam Cheruvu” is located near Hi-Tech city, which is the IT Hub of Hyderabad and popularly known as secret lake of the capital city. History reveals that the lake served as a drinking water source to Golconda fort, the place was difficult to reach due to lack of roads and was kept hidden for more than twenty years. The secret lake spreads over an area of 63 acres with the rock formations that are unique of its kind in Asia. Different features that it facilitate to the visitors who visit the lake are floating fountains, waterfalls, seating arrangements, rock garden and landscape gardens really makes this lake a beautiful place to visit within the twin cities.

“Himayat Sagar” is one among the beautiful lakes located in the Hyderabad and is at a distance of 20km away from city. The Lake was named after youngest son of the Nizam VII, Himayat Ali Khan and lies parallel to other lake named “Osman Sagar”. As the Hyderabad region receives heavy rainfall from the month of June to September and remains dry throughout the year, the main intension for the construction of reservoir was to store monsoon waters to meet water requirement for drinking and agriculture of Deccan region.

Hazarat Hussian Shah Wali who belongs to Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah Dynasty was renowned great emperor, thus lake was named after him as “Hussian Sagar”. The lake spreads over an area of 24kilometers at the tributary of river Musi to meet irrigation needs of the city. The lake is located at popularly known place called “Tank Bund”, the area is decked on one side with 33 statues of the great personalities of Andhra Pradesh and it holds water perennially.

“Lotus pond” is associated with a tag as the beautiful lake situated in Banjara hills, Hyderabad and it’s a small pond and lies about 1.2km.sq. The pond was built as the part of Eco-conservation project in order to preserve the beauty of natural rocks and other attractive sections of this place. It stretches over an area of 11 acres bounded by lush green trees and became a natural habitat for 20 species of birds that include Pied Kingfisher, White Wagtail, Common Moorhen, Little Grebe, sunbirds, Common Coot, and Little Egret.

“Osman Sagar” is an artificial lake popularly known as ‘Gandipet’, situated 20 kms away from the city of Hyderabad. The Lake spreads over an area of 46 square km and came in to existence with the constructing of a dam on the river Musi in 1920 by Mir Osman Ali Khan. The lake stands as an astonishing example of forethought of the builder and the basic idea behind the construction was to provide water supply to the Hyderabad city. Currently, water from this lake is supplied to twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
